Students who are in good academic standing may participate as members of St. Matthew Lutheran School athletic teams.  There are no try-outs or cuts based upon athletic skill, and we always function with the philosophy that anyone who fits the appropriate age/gender criteria is welcome to play on the team.

We offer a number of extracurricular athletic opportunities for our students.

Girls Basketball - JV and VarsityWe strive to help students learn not only the fundamental skills of each sport but also how to apply Christian principles to their sportsmanship and lives.  Dealing with success, as well as frustrations and failure, understanding teamwork, and maintaining proper Christian attitudes in sports and in daily life are worthy goals.  To that end, our conference league, the Western Lutheran Athletic League, has implemented the Martin Roedel Christian Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes schools that display Christian sportsmanship in all venues of competitive athletics, including the team, coaches, and fans.Soccer

Our desire is to have our students embody Christ in all aspects of their lives - both on and off the court or field. We received a great honor when St. Matthew Lutheran School was awarded the very first Martin Roedel Christian Sportsmanship Award in May of 2015.

In addition, we strive to help our students develop technically correct physical skills, physical conditioning, commitment to team concepts, self-discipline, priority setting, encouragement of others, and perseverance, as well as earn the right to play on the team upon meeting the standards set by the coach.
