Lunch Bags of Love! Sign Up for Family Mission Project Ends This Friday!

"Dream Small and help us work in BIG waysto help the homeless people in Detroit!"

Early in my ministry, I was standing in the hallway greeting students good morning when I received a response that shook me to my core... "Mrs. Palka, I'm not supposed to tell you, but we had to sleep in our car last night, and I was so scared."

An immediate investigation revealed the embarrassment of an eviction due to a series of unfortunate financial circumstances. Instantly, I watched the body of Christ work together to help this family get back into a suitable living environment and ensure that basic needs were met.  Scripture states in Matthew 25:40, "Whatever you do for the least of these, you do onto Me", and it was so exciting watching congregational members be the hands and feet of Jesus in action during this situation.  Sometimes, God uses us to help those in other states or countries, and sometimes, He presents us with opportunities to help people in our very own community.

This year, it has been very exciting watching the Lord bless our "Dream Small And Watch God Work In Big Ways" motto, where we have been asking the Lord to give us the ability to see situations through His eyes and with His heart.  Even though we have only completed one semester of this school year, God has blessed us with many avenues and opportunities in which we were able to see numerous needs and respond in Godly ways.

On Sunday, January 27th, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., St. Matthew Lutheran School families will have the opportunity to work together to "Dream Small And Watch God Work In Big Ways" as we assemble bagged lunches for those who frequent the NOAH Project Homeless Warming Shelter. The NOAH Project is based in Central Methodist Church, which is located next to Comerica Park in downtown Detroit. On Monday, January 28th, our 8th graders will have the opportunity to travel to Central Methodist Church and help distribute the lunches with Mr. Topel, Mr. Welte, and myself.

To help with the organization of this event, we are hosting two sign up times. Group One will work in the gym assembling lunches from 4:00 - 4:55 p.m. and then eat pizza together. Group Two will eat pizza together from 4:30 - 4:55 p.m. and then assemble lunches in the gym from 5:00 - 5:50 p.m.

To sign up for this event, please CLICK HERE or send in the form that was sent home last week.

It is our hope that your family will be able to join us and "dream small" to help those who are in need.

In His love,
Mrs. Palka
