LOVE LETTERS!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” John 13: 34 & 35

Have you ever received a note or letter that was just so special and/or endearing that you ended up keeping it and rereading it on days when you needed a little encouragement or inspiration?

Last week, my son and his family needed a ride to the airport to start their Spring Break vacation. As they were packing up the car, I said to my five-year-old grandson, “Max, I’m really going to miss you!”

He stopped and thought for a moment and then asked, “Do you have any paper I could use?” Retrieving a piece from our office printer, I handed it to him, and he disappeared. A few minutes later, he returned with a note that said, “I love you." As he handed it to me, he said, “I wrote this so every time that you miss me and get sad, you can read this, and it will make you happy!”

Guess what? He was exactly right! Every time that I saw that note on my table, I couldn’t help but smile.

God, too, wrote us a love letter when He gave us the Bible. He gave us His written Word so that we could see for ourselves just how He feels about us and how much He loves us. His Word is our guide, our encouragement, and our hope. And just like Max’s note, whenever we’re sad or lonely, God’s Word can restore our joy.

This week, as we concluded the Old Testament portion of “The Story” and began our New Testament journey by reading Chapters 22 and 23, may your heart be touched by God’s amazing love story of how He sent His one and only Son to be your Savior.

In His Unending Love,

Mrs. Palka
