The Power Of Persuasive Writing!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6

Each fall, I can always tell when the second graders are concluding their "Persuasive Writing Unit", as different letters for various appeals start to appear on my desk. In the past, arguments have been made for a swimming pool, football team, later start time for the school day, etc. However, this year, a young author really showed a bright future in a Marketing/Sales Career! Listed below is the letter that I found waiting for me last week:

Dear Mrs. Palka,

Please buy us a hot chocolate machine because in the winter, everyone gets cold and it's really convenient because you don't have to drive to Starbucks for hot chocolate. You also say that you are always cold in the lunchroom, so this would be a great solution! Also, we could have good behavior tokens that you and all the teachers could give to students. It would also save all of the staff members gas, including you!

All of the hard working teachers deserve it. Most of all you! It would also bring more students to St. Matthew!

Also, the highest costing hot chocolate machine is three hundred dollars but I found one for a hundred dollars! There is also a machine for two hundred dollars.

Please buy us a hot chocolate machine!
Love,
Abigail

Word quickly went out among all of the second graders, and the next thing I knew, they were all on Amazon, pricing out hot chocolate machines! After consulting our Cooks, as well as our Admission Counselor (since Abigail presented the argument that a hot chocolate machine would bring more students), I found a much cheaper solution, and I am happy to announce that for the months of November-March, the Basement Bistro will sell hot (warm)  chocolate for 50 cents a cup on Fridays. All proceeds from hot chocolate sales will be given to the monthly Chapel outreach.

Thanks a latte, Abigail, for sharing your budding entrepreneurial skills with all of us, and giving a sweet way to help others in the process.

In Jesus' Love,
Mrs. Palka
