LIONS AND TIGER AND CHARGERS... OH MY!

What an exciting week to be a Michigan sports fan!

On Monday, the Detroit Lions beat the Seattle Sea Hawks with our quarterback, Jared Goff, having a perfect game and even scoring a touchdown! In addition, after ten years, the Detroit Tigers made it into the American League Playoffs! And on Tuesday, during a torrential downpour, our own St. Matthew Chargers were soggy but victorious during their soccer match against Northville Christian! In addition, our JV and Varsity Volleyball Teams, as well as our Cross Country Team are also having wonderful seasons. As you watch any sporting event, you know that great leadership produces great results.

The Detroit Lions prioritize leadership skills not just for their own team, but as an organization, they want to make an impact on future generations. As a result, the Lions organization has developed a school assembly program entitled, “Leaders for Life”, and St. Matthew Lutheran School is fortunate to be one of the schools selected this year to experience this performance.

It thrills us to announce that next Thursday, October 10th, the Lion’s mascot, Roary, will visit the students of St. Matthew, to teach important concepts regarding how to be a positive leader within our school and our community. To show our Detroit Lions’ spirit, we are encouraging all students to wear Lions attire and/or blue/white colors on this day.

However, as Christians, we know that the most important quality of being a positive leader is to love the Lord with our whole heart, and let the love of Jesus shine through our actions. As a result, we will conclude this Lions football day with a tailgate party in the afternoon that will be designed with the intention to help recent hurricane victims who are in need.

Last week, Hurricane Helene left a path of devastation across the southeast from the coast of Florida to the mountains of North Carolina. Samaritan’s Purse is a Christian organization designed with the mission to "help others in the name of Jesus", and they already have five sites established to help hurricane victims with physical and spiritual needs.

Students are asked to bring a free will donation on October 10 for the tailgate party of Long's Apple Orchard cider and donuts. All donations will be given to Samaritan’s Purse to assist with their efforts in helping the victims of Hurricane Helene.

We are very excited to see how the Lord will work through our students to help those who are in need!

Have a wonderful week, and GO LIONS, TIGERS, and ST. MATTHEW CHARGERS!

In His Love,

Mrs. Palka
