“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Have you ever found yourself on treacherous icy roads? A few weeks ago, when the roads iced up extremely fast, a dear friend of mine was traveling on I-75. Because of the hazardous road conditions, he was being extremely cautious and cognizant of his speed. However, ice is ice, and in the blink of an eye, he found himself spinning across three lanes of traffic! When he regained control of the car and finally got it to stop, he found himself facing oncoming traffic! His protection throughout this situation is something that I call a “God-thing” because the only way that you can explain that my friend did not get hit or hit another vehicle is God!
Slippery roads can be extremely dangerous, and it is best to avoid them whenever possible! As parents, we also have the responsibility to teach our children about the “slippery roads” of life and that God’s Word speaks to such issues. Slippery roads in life usually start out small in their intensity but tend to escalate with time. Lying, cheating, gossiping, disrespect, and teasing are just a few of the abundant “slippery” behaviors that tend to snowball if they are not lovingly addressed and corrected.
At St. Matthew Lutheran School, one of our top priorities is to walk with parents to help disciple the children entrusted into our care by teaching God’s Word and the way that it can direct their lives. In addition, we will partner with parents to help students detect and/or avoid slippery conditions that can lead to unGodly behaviors.
