"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17
What questions immediately get your attention? Questions such as “do you smell something burning?” or your spouse asking, “Where is the child that you're supposed to be watching?” or “Did you see the large dent in your car?” tend to stop us in our tracks.
However, the question, “Do you hear water running?” is also a crucial and critical question. In fact, that question pretty much saved our kitchen from turning into an indoor swimming pool just a few weeks ago!
Due to a recent repair/remodel project in their own home, my son and his family have been living with us for the past few weeks. Days into their stay and shortly after I had gone to bed, my daughter-in-law asked my son, ”Do you hear water running?” As she began an investigative search, she discovered two tranquil waterfalls cascading through our recessed kitchen lights and pooling on our new counter tops and floor! Immediately, the urgency escalated to a “CODE RED! ALL HANDS ON DECK” situation of hunting down the leak and getting the water shut off. Water spraying from a crack in a bathroom pipe provided the necessary clue of where the problem originated. However, the problem had caused further damage, and to repair the entire problem, a home "make over" was necessary to remove all the old bathroom pipes in order for the new and improved version to appear! In addition, a skilled carpenter had cut out and remove the damaged and stained ceiling and replace it with new and perfect drywall.
In a similar fashion, our human and sinful natures also needed a serious “make- over”. God knew that we needed a Savior, and He loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son, Jesus, to come to this earth so that He could perform the ultimate “demolition day” and conquer sin and death by dying on the cross for our sins. Through Jesus, our old sinful nature, filled with cracks, leaks, and stains has been removed, and we are a new creation!
As we continue through this Lenten season, may the Lord provide you and your family with precious time to study His Word through "The Story" as you learn how much He cares for you!
In His Love,
Mrs. Palka
